National History Day in Idaho (NHD) is a year-long, student-led academic program focused on historical research, interpretation and creative expression for 4th-12th grade students across Idaho. Students have the opportunity to become writers, filmmakers, web designers, playwrights and artists as they create unique contemporary expressions of history. The experience culminates in a series of competitions at the local and state levels, with an annual national contest in June.
Teachers who choose to adopt this year-long program will have the flexibility to adapt it to meet the needs of their classroom. The 2023 National History Day Theme Narrative is “Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas.” This theme is broad enough in scope to encourage the investigation of topics ranging from local to global history.
