Curriculum and Instruction
Boundary County School District places
particular emphasis on (what is taught) curriculum and (how it is taught) instruction. The district curriculum is aligned to Idaho
state standards but is much broader. The
district emphasizes student development in the core academic areas of reading,
language usage, math, and science in order to prepare our students to meet and
exceed the state standards. However, the district places great value on a well
rounded education and maintains a focus on social studies, the art/humanities,
career education, and citizenship.
Boundary County School District is very
fortunate to have a highly qualified staff providing student instruction that
is systematic, thorough and creative.
The district encourages staff to improve their instructional techniques
by participating in the many district-sponsored, research-based professional
development opportunities offered each year.
Idaho State Standards
The Boundary County School District
continues to address implementation of the State Content Standards as
appropriate. The district has aligned its core curriculum with the standards
and teachers address them daily in their classrooms. The standards set targets for what students
are expected to know and understand.
State assessment of the core standards is
delivered via computer. That
computer-delivered assessment is the Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT).
Students in grades 2 through 10 take the
ISAT twice a year, in the fall and again in the spring. The ISAT is comprised of three sections -
language usage, reading and math (science is in the process of pilot testing). The assessment measures whether students have
mastered essential skills and knowledge in these areas.
