Donna has been working on getting this caught up and has done an amazing job. The cut-off date will be March 23rd as the labels have to be turned in by March 31st.
Dr.Seuss Day
Will be held on March 2nd. Mrs. Santoro invited some kids from Riverside to come and read to the kids in the different classes. She will get a lunch count from the teacher at Riverside and let Connie know if there will need to be additional lunches prepared for that day. Last year we purchased 6 cheese pizzas and 6 pepperoni pizzas, this year we will purchase a dozen of each instead. Lemonade will be mixed in the Igloo coolers in addition to water being available. We will need plates and cups for this event, Aimee will pick those up from Costco prior to the event in addition to purchasing cups for the chili feed at the same time.
Chili Feed
Will be held on March 16th starting at 5:30pm.
WOW! Prizes
All that is left is Frisbees, water bottles, mini flashlights, yo yo’s and snap on bracelets. It was motioned and seconded to spend $100 to order new prizes. The motion passed and Debra Douglas volunteered to put the order together.
Ice Skating Party
On February 27th the both Mrs. Santoro’s class and Mrs. Schulte’s class will be going Ice Skating. The cost is $5.50/student and students are being asked to pay for themselves. It was requested that the PTO help pay for any kids who cannot afford the $5.50. It was motioned and seconded that we set aside $27.50 to cover up to 5 students. The motion passed.

January 10, 2006 PTO Meeting
Meeting opened at: 3:15pm
Meeting adjourned at: 4:30pm
Attended by:
Jim Nash, Wendy Bertling, Aimee Christopherson, Stan Christopherson, Donna Strangio, Nichole Sorensen, Chad Farrens, Gary Forrester, Kim Dinsmore, Francine Santoro, Paula Schulte and Carolyn Bateman.
Parking Lot
It was proposed by a parent that at the West side of the building and parking lot, the teachers park in the second row from the school allowing the parents to park in the row closest to the school. This was proposed in an effort to reduce the number of lanes of traffic that kids are crossing and help achieve the goal of creating a safer environment for the students before and after school. Teachers could pull up to the curb to load and unload their cars. One teacher expressed a need to try to add more gravel to that parking area so that the teachers would not have to be in the big puddles that currently exist in the parent parking area. Another teacher expressed that they do not want to have to park that far away as it creates difficulty during adverse weather especially when they have a lot to carry. Jim shared that getting the signs ordered has still been delayed due to more pressing needs in the district maintenance department.
Funds Requests
Title I Dinner
The Title I program receives Federal money to use to create a format for parent input and information. This previously was done in the form of a dinner held at different locations in town with very minimal, if any, parent attendance. It was presented to either pair this event with the Chili Dinner, or the Math Night. After some discussion it was decided that it would be best to pair it with the Math Night and have a dinner in conjunction with the event, possibly using a caterer for some or all of the meal depending on costs. A date will be announced.
Idaho 1% Sales Tax Initiative
The PTO is invited to attend an informational meeting to be held on Wednesday January 11th at 7pm in the Becker Auditorium about this initiative. Monies from this sales increase would come to the district. It is estimated that the school district would receive around one million dollars to be divided equally between salaries and programs. In order for this initiative to continue 450 signatures would be needed from within Boundary County alone.
Gifted and Talented Program Funds Request
There are no additional funds available through Special Education dollars. The other school principals are not in favor of using fundraiser money to help with this request. Unfortunately, Evergreen is the only school considering it and the $200 requested would not be enough for the teacher to purchase the materials she was requesting the funds to purchase. This request was being made because of the program’s lack of funding and inability to fundraise for additional funds.
Campbell’s Soup Labels Program
Donna Strangio just found out that she has now been given the job of coordinating this program that was previously delegated between two parents. It was unclear what happened, but Donna will need a lot of support as there is a lot to do.
Dr. Seuss Birthday
Evergreen students will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Thursday March 2nd. Students will spend the day reading and doing reading activities and be served pizza and beverages by the PTO. Three parents will be contacted before the next meeting to see if they could collaborate in coordinating this event.
Learning Fair/Chili Feed/Dessert Auction
It was decided to set the date for Thursday, March 16th and to use St. Patrick’s Day as a decorating theme. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. Duties will be divided out into separate areas, with optimally three working on coordinating the Chili feed and three working on the auction portion of the evening. Teachers will have students create items that can be used to decorate for the event.
Plant Sale/Book Fair
Francine proposed having pre-orders this year for the plants and possibly having a Krispie Kreme fundraiser on the same day, taking pre-orders for this event as well.
Next Meeting
· Teacher funds requests from Mrs. Douglas and Connie as well as revisit Mr. Cady’s microscope request
· Discuss allocation of funds from the Mt. Hall Auction ($9,887.33)
· Revisit Parking Lot policy and proposal
· Upcoming events: Jump Rope for Heart, Dr. Seuss Birthday, Learning Fair/Chili Feed/Dessert Auction, Soup Labels, Math Night/Title I dinner and Plant Sale/Book Sale – needs, volunteers, etc.

Tree of Sharing
Reminder will go home to tell parents what is needed. Food items are preferred. The focus is on giving.
Benches
Marisa had provided two different samples of benches that

Target was selected.

table for the hallway. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Meeting opened at: 3:14pm
Meeting closed at: 4:19pm

Auction
Set-up on Thursday. Mrs. Douglas will be there the whole time as a back-up for Saturday to help ensure that we don’t get docked if someone is not able to be there. Everyone was reminded of their time slots that they had signed up for.
Lock Down Program
The school is implementing a lock-down program through Homeland Security and the Police Department. Phones and an intercom system will be being installed in each classroom. Only the main door will remain unlocked and all parents or other visitors will need to sign in. The waiting area will be near the bathrooms and Mr. Nash is requesting that the PTO purchase a bench or benches for parents to sit on while they wait. Marisa volunteered to look at benches and price them. In addition a mirror will be installed outside the office door so that activity in the hallway can be monitored from inside the office. A note will be mailed home.
Parking Lot
We are still waiting on signs. It was recommended again that a note be mailed home explaining the new drop-off and pick-up procedures. Note could go in mail with Lock Down information.
PTO
It has been recommended that the school’s web page be used to communicate with parents. All links are working now. Our website is www.bcsd101.com/evergreen. A letter will go home to parents to inform them of the website.
Christmas Program
The Christmas Program is scheduled for December 8th at 6:30pm with students arriving at 6pm. The kids will wear nice Christmas clothes. Mrs. Douglas has asked the PTO to help decorate the staging area for the program. There is a tree and some decorations in storage. It will be a sing-a-long format with cookies, hot cocoa, cider and punch to be provided by the PTO.
Care and Share
It was discussed to set-up a tree to be able to help those in need in our area/school.
Funds Request
Amy Cowley is requesting $250 from each of the schools to purchase computers for the gifted and talented program. They have a classroom at the High School. The program is open to all school age kids that qualify. It was decided that we needed more information in order to be able to vote on the request of funds.
The PTO was also asked to provide funds to a teacher at the Middle School who is trying to build an AR library. It was decided that we should look into updating or school library and possibly sharing books that we have extra multiples of with the teacher at the Middle School.
Funds
The PTO has a balance of $3651.00. Wendy has asked that teachers request what they are needing for individual classrooms and for the school in general. The question was also raised as to if or how we want to allocate funds to others outside of our school in an effort to help break some of the school vs. school mentality. It was also brought up that Kathy brings in all her own supplies and volunteers to teach art to our students. The question was raised as to possibly setting up an art fund to help with these costs.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held on November 29, 2005. Teachers will bring individual classroom and school requests for purchases. The benches will be reviewed with information and prices.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:19pm.
